Rookwood History

In 1792 the main burial ground for the colony was established on a site which is now occupied by the Sydney Town Hall and St Andrew’s Cathedral, until it became full and a new cemetery was established near the brick-fields, known as the Sandhills or Devonshire Street cemetery. HELP THE CEMETERY STAY 'ALIVE'

CALLING FOR SPONSORS - HIDDEN: A ROOKWOOD SCULPTURE WALK 2012

The Anglican and General Cemetery Trusts are responsible for the burial, care and maintenance of 92 hectares of Rookwood, approximately one-third of the cemetery.

We conduct funeral services and burials, as well as inter ashes, for many religious denominations.

We also offer a family history research service with our Deceased Search feature, conduct restoration projects through Monuments in Memoriam and provide a site for training in the funeral services industry.

Reflections at Rookwood Cafe offers the perfect place for a coffee, quick meal or to hold a function/wake.
