Friends of Rookwood
The Friends of Rookwood is a community based organisation, passionately interested in the restoration of the largest cemetery in the Southern Hemisphere.
Rookwood was established in 1868 and is regarded as one of the finest examples of a Victorian Gardenesque style cemeteries in the world. Close to one million people have there final resting place, within the boundaries of it’s almost three hundred hectares. Our aim is to raise public awareness of the cultural and historical value of the cemetery and the need to ensure its preservation.
Cemetery Tours
Volunteer guides conduct tours on the first Sunday of each month from March to November commencing at 10a.m.
Twilight tours, 5.30 p.m. – 7.30 p.m. are conducted from November until March, excluding December.
Tour Days and other activities provide us with the funds to assist in restoration projects within the cemetery. Tours for special interest groups can be arranged for minimum of 20 people on a day to suit you.
Become a member or volunteer!
The Friends of Rookwood are dedicated to increasing awareness of the social, historical and cultural values of the cemetery and raising funds to assist in continuing restoration. By becoming a member you will receive a quarterly newsletter and have the opportunity to participate in a range of meetings and other activities. You will also have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping in the restoration of this unique heritage site.

The Helping Hands!
Currently, the Helping Hands, who are members of the “Friends of Rookwood”, attend the cemetery bi-monthly on the second Saturday and last Tuesday to assist in the maintenance of the vast and beautiful gardens. For more information contact the Friends of Rookwood.
