Important Community Notice

Last updated 8.10pm, 1 April 2020

The health and safety of our community and staff is our top priority.

We remain in contact with the appropriate authorities regarding the COVID-19 crisis and are committed to keeping everyone safe when using Rookwood to farewell their loved ones.

From 31 March, NSW Government have announced that the community must stay at home unless they are carrying out an essential activity, such as work, medical care, collection of essentials and exercise. There is an exception for funerals, provided they are limited to 10 people and social distancing of 1.5m is maintained. As these new restrictions are legally enforceable and police have been patrolling the cemetery, we request that families remain in isolation during this time.

To comply with these restrictions, we have adopted the following changes to our services:

  • All funeral services are restricted to 10 people, including funeral director staff. Funerals taking place inside our venues must include one RGC staff member in the numbers as set out below.
  • We will no longer be accepting payment via cash for any of our services. Please assist us by making alternative arrangements, such as paying by credit card, direct deposit, or cheque.
  • Families are welcome to utilise our chapels and to facilitate this, we have measured each area and the maximum occupancy as allowed by law (1 person per 4 square metres) is detailed below:

  • Burial and cremation services will continue to be offered 7 days per week, however office hours have temporarily changed to 7.30am - 4.00pm. The office will be closed on weekends. We will have Client Services representatives available via phone on Sundays from 9.00am to 3.00pm.
  • Our function centre and research hub within the Village at Rookwood will be closed temporarily. The florist will remain open and cafe will remain open for takeaway.
  • Our large outdoor events for the year have been cancelled, including Qing Ming, Anzac Day, Greek Easter and HIDDEN Rookwood Sculptures.

Please be assured that we are here to help families through this difficult time and we will continue to implement safety measures to keep our community safe.
