Now Hiring: Senior Burial Technician (Grave Digger)

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has become available for a Senior Burial Technician (Grave Digger) to join our organisation.

The Role

Reporting to the Funeral Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be part of supportive team and organisation where they will gain all the training and knowledge to be successful in their role.

This role is primarily responsible for preparing, digging and back filling graves and ensuring grave sites are appropriately presented before and immediately after burials.

Your main duties in this role will include:

  • Operating backhoe, excavator, skid steer, front end loader or other like powered machinery
  • Preparing sites for upcoming burials including grave excavation.
  • Attending and assisting at burial services and lowering of coffins
  • Back-filling of the grave and the final clean-up of the site
  • Maintenance of grave sites and basic routine maintenance of burial equipment
  • Preparing and closing crypts and vaults
  • Placing of cremated remains
  • Performing exhumations on a voluntary basis
  • Basic grounds and lawn maintenance
  • Assisting and liaising with families, visitors and members of the public
  • Role includes frequent heavy lifting
  • Must follow strict WHS procedures

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will have a mature outlook and a positive can-do attitude. The role is highly visible to the public and community, so you will need to be able to attend to queries and your duties with an empathetic and professional approach.

  • Driver's license with ability to drive manual cars (essential)
  • Operation experience in varied machinery operation(skid steer loader, excavator, backhoe) is a MUST
  • The ability to work to schedules and deadlines
  • Be fit and healthy to be undertake frequent heavy lifting
  • The ability to work autonomously and in a team with a positive attitude
  • The ability to work in a professional and respectful manner towards a diverse range of people, cultures, and beliefs
  • Reliable and punctual with great communication skills and work ethic
  • Industry experience an advantage but not essential
  • Knowledge of some WHS practices
