The decision to bury or cremate is a very personal one, often influenced by the current practices of a person’s community or religion. Here at Rookwood Anglican and General Cemeteries, we cater for both burial and ash interments.

Burials
A burial is the process of placing the deceased person in a coffin and then into the ground ("grave") and covering it over with soil. Burials can occur in either a lawn section (where a small plaque or monument may be erected at the head of the grave) or in a monumental section (where a monument completely covers the grave).
Every religion has its own unique customs and practices at a funeral service. If you are unsure if your requirements can be accomodated, please speak with your funeral director.

Ash Interments
Although we do not have a crematorium on our site, families can choose cremation at the Rookwood Memorial Gardens & Crematorium (or at another location) and have the ashes interred here in our grounds. Many people choose to have ashes placed in a specially designated area like a rose garden or niche wall. However, another option is to have ashes placed in a grave that has already been used for burials, or will be used in the future. There is enough space in most graves for 2 full coffin burials, as well as 20 ash interments. By using existing family graves there is no need to buy new sites and the family will have a final resting place together.
