Rookwood Necropolis is Crown Land which means that it is owned by the State government. The responsibility of managing all of the land and all structures thereon, is vested in nine separate administrations. Each cemetery Trust is managed by a Board of Trustees, who is nominated by the Minister of Lands.
The Trustees manage the affairs of the cemetery on behalf of the Minister in charge of the Crown Lands Act. The Trustees work in an honorary capacity but each administration has an office at Rookwood and employs its own managers, office staff and grounds staff.
The Anglican and General Cemetery Trust is responsible for the burial, care and maintenance of the following sections.
| The Anglican Trust | The General Trust |
| Anglican | Chinese |
| Armenian | Druze |
| Assyrian | Hindu |
| Macedonian Orthodox | Indochinese |
| Mandaen | Islamic |
| Maori | Khmer |
| Serbian Orthodox | Vietnamese |
| Russian Orthodox |
The many communities within the Anglican and General sections are interred across the cemetery in various sections. You can see these sections in more detail on our map. Most of our sections are named by ethnic background (and hence are self-explanatory) however there are some sections with their own names:
