Metropolitan Memorial Parks Amalgamation
Metropolitan Memorial Parks to guide future of NSW Crown Cemeteries
Metropolitan Memorial Parks is a NSW Government entity entrusted to bring together Northern Cemeteries, Rookwood General Cemetery, and Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries NSW, effective from 1 July 2023.
The amalgamation is a significant step towards addressing the growing concern about the supply of cemetery space. As Metropolitan Memorial Parks we are in a much stronger position to work with Government and plan for the future.
Our combined operating model also eliminates a considerable amount of financial and operational duplication.
Metropolitan Memorial Parks was selected as the name of our new entity as it reflects the important and caring service provided to the community at our eight memorial parks across Sydney and Newcastle.
Our Governance Structure
NSW Lands and Property, the Honourable Stephen Kamper has appointed Ken Morrison as the Administrator of Metropolitan Memorial Parks, until such time as a skills-based board is implemented to provide stable leadership, efficient practices and a strategic long-term vision for the future of the industry.
The Administrator is appointed under the Crown Land Management Act 2016 to act as a ‘one person Board’ and ensure ongoing governance of the Crown Land Manager.
Now that we have legally amalgamated, over the coming months we will be consolidating our systems, processes, branding and websites.
In the meantime, please continue to engage with your existing contacts at each cemetery or memorial park.
Please be assured that during the changeover, we are committed to day-to-day operations continuing as usual, and we remain committed to building strong relationships with our valued and important stakeholders.
