Now Hiring: Stonemason Apprenticeship

In addition to being the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, Rookwood General Cemeteries Reserve Land Manager (“Land Manager”) is the oldest, largest, and most multicultural operating Cemetery in Australia. It is valued for its heritage and cultural significance and is utilised by the community as not only a place of remembrance, but as an historic parkland.

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has become available for 2 x Stonemason Apprentices to join our organisation. 

The Role

Reporting to the Monuments Manager, the successful candidates will be part of a supportive team and organisation where they will gain all the training, mentoring and knowledge to be successful in their role.

The two Stonemason Apprentices will have the opportunity to complete a Certificate III in Stonemasonry (Monumental / Installations).

Duties will include but are not limited to: 

  • Monumental installation including constructing monuments and installing foundations
  • Operate plant and equipment including excavator, cranes, forklift and other like powered machinery if required
  • Completing monumental restoration and repair
  • Carrying out heritage conservation work
  • Basic landscaping

What we are looking for

The successful candidate will have a mature outlook and a positive can-do attitude. The role is highly visible to the public and community, so you will need to be able to attend to queries and your duties with an empathetic and professional approach.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Keen interest in Stonemasonry
  • Own transport and current manual Driver's License
  • Willingness to commit to a 3-year Apprenticeship
  • The ability to work in a team with a positive attitude
  • The ability to work in a professional and respectful manner towards a diverse range of people, cultures, and beliefs 
  • Is reliable and punctual with great communication skills and work ethic.
  • Knowledge of some WHS practices
